This five-day urban art class will explore various forms of guerilla art and how they are used to impact thought and opinion in today’s media culture. From Shepard Fairey to Banksy, wheat pasting to stencil cutting, we will explore all kinds of art born in the streets. Local artists will work with students throughout the week to explore traditions and techniques used both locally and internationally. Students will create various kinds of urban art and will get to exhibit their creations to the public.

Urban Art II: The Art of the Letter

Spend seven days exploring the fundamentals of graffiti writing! We will work specifically on lettering forms and urban can wielding techniques in preparation for the 2010 Utah Arts Festival (June 24-27). Students will go on-site to share their work and the art of graffiti with the public in an interactive environment. At the festival, students will be working alongside professional community artists, producing custom art for sale, and participating in an ever-changing graffiti wall. No prerequisite required.
