Applying to college in the States? Higher Ground can help you prepare for the SAT* or the ACT right at your school. Since 1997 we have traveled all over the world to deliver engaging, creative classes that give students powerful tools to be successful on the SAT* and ACT. After over a decade of experience, we have perfected not only our effective and successful course material but also our unique delivery. We have incredible teachers who are young, fun, creative, and most importantly, intelligent. While our teachers have an amazing ability to explain a concept in different ways to accommodate different learning styles, they also have the ability to make the students laugh, and thus keep them interested and invested. And for all of this value, we are able to offer a class at a rate that consistently beats local test preparation prices when those services exist.
WHY IS GETTING A HIGH SCORE SO IMPORTANT?
As you know, standardized test scores are one of the most important factors considered in college admissions, second only to GPA. Slightly less than 90% of US colleges require either the ACT or the SAT*, and when not required, submitting a score is still recommended. Each year over three million people take the tests, and a good score can go a long way in helping one stand out from the crowd. Not only does a good score help in gaining admission to selective universities, it also affords a student more opportunities to receive merit-based scholarships. A small investment in increasing a student's score can lead to incredible returns when it comes time to pay tuition. Furthermore, lower scores often result not from lacking in knowledge or ability but rather succumbing to anxiety and stress on test day. Through preparation, students can avoid this by becoming more confident in knowing the test and their abilities.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM US
Classes are customized for each school, but there are certain key elements we consider hallmarks of our program and they are included in every class. Our curriculum spans 30 - 35 hours and includes three practice exams with detailed diagnostic reports. These reports expertly break down both students strengths and weaknesses within each subject area. Exams and classes are administered over approximately three weeks and built around both the school's and the students' schedules. During classroom instruction, students actively participate in group discussions about strategy, approach, and timing as well as work through problems extensively in their student curriculum. Also included are customized 1-on-1 sessions for each student. Our students average an increase of 200 points on the SAT or 3 points on the ACT.
SCHOOLS TALKING ABOUT THE CLASS
Higher Ground Learning provided a very dynamic SAT prep experience for our students. As an International School, we often feel that our students are at a disadvantage because they do not have access to SAT* prep courses. Higher Ground offers an affordable solution - our students paid less than half the price they would in the States for a comparable course. From a guidance perspective, Higher Ground kept me informed of the students' progress, and the instructor made individual consultation time available to students during the school day. I am happy to have Higher Ground come back and work with our students again. Shaun McElroy, Guidance Counselor, Escuela Campo Alegre Caracas, Venezuela
I would like to thank you for the excellent work you have done in preparing our juniors for the SAT* I. From the beginning, students felt that the environment you created was a safe and comfortable one where they could build confidence in test taking and acquire new skills. Your materials, personal approach, knowledge of the test, and teaching style combined to make it a great experience. I especially appreciated your flexibility in working around some of the special scheduling needs of some of our athletes and a student who was ill and could not make the first session. Moscow is a wonderful city, rich in culture but short on resources for US college-bound students. Your trip from Salt Lake to Moscow made a big difference in the lives of my students. They entered the test last Saturday feeling like the stood a chance of getting the score they wanted and deserved. Thank you, I look forward to working with you every year."
